Lorie....Lincoln Street

What to do when summer feels a tad too steamy? This one's advice appears to be: "Don some red and say 'take that, Mister Hundred and One'."

The word "accessorize" dates from 1939 though, clearly, headdresses, swords, and shields were the ultimate accessories well before there was a name for such.
Hayley is a jewelry designer with a penchant, not surprisingly, for accessorizing. She recently displayed her work at Finleaf Gallery. Her tailored white dress is the perfect backdrop for her creations....

And then, a look down reveals these sandals. En garde, demure white dress! I feel a tango coming on.
Meanwhile, her darling friend models more of Hayley's line, called Hermosa, Spanish for "beautiful".....
My favourite bit of turquoise, though, was worn by the always hermosa Peg, owner of Finleaf, who tells me she is just back from a family trip to the Spanish territory you call California.

Lucky Mr. Peg to have a traveling companion such as this.

Meredith....Devine Street

Lovely Meredith found this sundress at a thrift store in Pittsburgh, all tags still intact. It was just $11.50, an amount she was excited to say that she could scrounge up from "loose change lying around in my car." The fabric reminds me of some of my favorite art nouveau patterns.

Knickers....and Birthday Suits

Sometime after my third plate of barbecued tofu, just before having my chakras aligned, I experienced harmonic convergence. I spied this cookbook, displayed prominently in a California New Age bookstore. A sign from The Universe, undoubtedly: it was time for this fashion anthropologist to go home.

Ah the synchronicity! Despite my two week absence, my regular Friday night seat at Terra was still available.
Then, one table over, this Southern lad was marking his birthday in what he tells me is the Clinton, SC tradition—by wearing an old man’s plaid shirt and putting underwear on his head. The reading glasses are from Terra’s stash, which they keep behind the bar.

Knickers on the noggin, with a side of bourbon? Beats the trousers off guided meditation and wheatgrass juice.

Reid....Seersucker Friday

I dropped by Reid's public speaking school in Camden to watch a debate and found my friend wearing his seersucker suit. Seersucker Thursday is a June tradition in the U.S. Senate, but of course, Reid would never (knowingly at least) fashion himself after a Congressman. And when one sees what the gentleman wears on his belt, one hopes there's little chance he'd be permitted into the nation's capitol without a thorough frisking.
Why Reid views a hunting knife as the must-have accessory is something perhaps you can explain. I admit I'm stumped.
