Pretty Shopper....Mast General

I had to sneak a photograph of this pretty young woman, who had concocted such a pretty ensemble in minty green.  I much liked the chunky sweater paired with the tulle skirt. I have no idea what her plans might have been, but it seemed perfect attire for a little ice skating outside the Columbia Museum of Art.

Boots & Bag....Crossing Taylor

I found myself in step with this festive combination while shopping on Main Street last week.

J....Main Street

"I believe André Leon Talley might be at the market today," the pretty young woman whispered to me.  I looked in the direction toward which she tipped her head to see an impressive gentleman sporting a fabulous furry coat.  I watched as someone else took his picture, then asked if I might as well.  It was not Mr. Talley (who is a native of the Carolinas, by the way) but the also-stylish Mr. Anthony.  Thank you sir for the photo!

Camel Coat....Soda City

I much admired what both these handsome chaps were wearing, but nostalgia requires than I go on a bit about the camel coat.  When I was a wee fellow, I was amused at the notion of a "camel" coat, believing it made from the hump of a camel.  The source of that misinformation was my rascally Uncle Fergus, a man who thrived on spinning up tales and terrifying children.

Camel, I later learned, was the colour.  Indeed, a rather snooty American lady once told me she'd read in Collier's magazine that camel coloured overcoats were proper to wear in the summer, in the country, and in the South--but that navy overcoats were called for in the city, in autumn, in winter, and in spring.  Seems that we're quite right, then, to wear them here whenever we jolly well please!

April....Main Street

April looked absolutely adorable on a chilly morning.  And she was a delightful person, as well. Thank you dear--and I do hope you enjoy your greens!

Carri....Drip Coffee

I was enjoying a very large latte at the counter of Drip in Five Points, when I felt a wave of good will wash over me.  Was it the spirit of the season?  Or was I responding to the subliminal message emanating from the words tattooed on Carri's arms?  We chatted (she's a darling young woman) and she told me she'd just recently had the two words imprinted above her elbows.
I relate, in particular, to the word above the right one, for with my advanced years, it's a skill that seems to come quite naturally.  In other words, I may still be able to hold a grudge....but I may not be able to remember why!

Molly & Chap....London Calling

Imagine my delight when I opened up The Facebook and found a photo of this stylish chap--along with a message from photographer Molly Harrell:

This gentleman was hanging out on Brick Lane, outside Beigel's Bagel shop, near Spitalfields Market. The first and best salt beef bagel shop in London. Thought you might could use it.

Molly is visiting London and I admit to feeling a twinge of envy. I do hope she's having fun.  I swiped the photo of her, below....
....which she just uploaded as her profile portrait.  I hope she won't mind!  Looks as if the English weather is agreeing with her.

Clogs & Cuffs....Soda City

I loved this woman's Saturday-morning-at-the-market look, particularly the way she was wearing clogs with her turned up jeans.
I also like the style of this duo, not to mention the music that they play.

Holiday Plaid....Wine Garage

This festive red and green plaid coat was all that stood between me and a free sip of cava.  As that fashion icon, dear Mr. Lincoln, might observe: a fashion anthropologist divided from his bubbly cannot stand in line for long.
Fortunately, my wait was brief--and I did put the time to good purpose, capturing a photo or two of the adorable woman wearing the coat.  I'm rather partial to a red and green plaid, as it's my family tartan.  I also found the Wine Garage to be a delight. It's a new shop on North Main Street that carries an interesting selection of wines and beers at very nice prices, across from the LambsBread vegan restaurant, if you care to check it out!

Tom & Emile....Vests

Dear reader, I confess I was make some play on the word "vest" such as "vest friends" or "vesty interesting."  Lucky for you, I resisted!  The two gentlemen seemed too well dressed for such silliness, anyway.  Tom, on the left, has been featured on my humble blog before.  Emile, on the right, is one of the best-dressed fellows in town, but I have never had the good fortune to include him here.  Why, you might ask.
Well, I wonder if he has an aversion to fashion anthropologists.  Above, you see how it's gone with an earlier photo.  (Surprisingly, I found the "diabolical" eyebrow even more intimidating than the Hong Kong Phooey hands.)  As I reconsider, perhaps he was joking. He does seem to have a playful sense of humor, and I am rather hard of hearing, as I've proven before. At any rate, I'm most appreciative and do hope I'll find him amenable to future attempts at documenting his natty wardrobe!

Holiday Tutu....Main Street

Memo to self, as they say, attend next year's Jingle All the Way 5k.  Apparently, it's a boon for fashion anthroplogists.  Above, you see yet another adorable runner clad in festive attire.  On the other hand, I did manage to see more than a few of the runners at the Soda City market--and the market does provide excellent coffee--which I'm not sure I'd find along the running route.
Here's a slightly different shot, taken as the runner was chatting with a market vendor who makes books.  I overheard the runner saying she'd made her tutu herself, a statement which caused my ears to perk up since I'd just held forth on the origins of the traditional tutu material, bobbinet.

Jingle Runner....Main Street

Indeed, I did smile when I saw this darling woman. I was shopping at the Soda City Market downtown, and she had just finished some sort of jingle bell 5k.  Delightful!
